The Beauty of Innocence

So often, children are experiencing ordinary things for the first time and we don't even notice as parents.  They wonder how to connect the dots of life and we completely missed the moments.  Then comes a second chance when we can slow down to enjoy and cherish snipets of curiosity in our grandchildren's lives.

My granddaughters had their first experience with an ice storm in February.  It was a long weekend at my cabin in the Ouachita Mountains.  They had never ridden on a sled or tasted an icicle.  So when Disney layered their lives with Frozen characters that they love, that perspective transformed carrots, briquettes of charcoal, Mom's scarf, and sticks into a humble version of Olaf.  Dad helped build him mainly from ice, while the nuggets of meager decorations satisfied their imaginations.

As the girls were sliding on ice and breaking off icicles, my eldest, Lucy, was chatting about the cold.  I said to her, "Everything is frozen.  Elsa must have been here.  She used her powers and stretched out  her arms to freeze everything."  Lucy seemed perplexed, standing in the cold just thinking.  Then she asked "Does Elsa live here?"

Oh, to believe in wondrous magic.  Innocence is as beautiful as those big brown wondering eyes. 💕
